FIELD: manufacture of photographic films and paper. SUBSTANCE: silver halide-based light-sensitive emulsion is prepared by emulsifying the starting materials in two stages. At the first stage alkali metal bromide solution and silver nitrate solution are poured to aqueous gelatin solution in two thin streams at pH Ag solution of 10,0± 0,5 to produce microcrystalline substrate. After adding the reagents completely, at the second stage solution of silver chloride and solution of silver nitrate are poured to the resulting mixture in two thin streams (pH Ag solution of 7,8± 0,5) in amounts such that a ArBr/ArCl ratio of microcrystalline substrate of the emulsion is of (0.5-5.0):1. EFFECT: improved production process. 3 tbl
