FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: ingot production method provides for application on ingot mold inner surface of cover with thermal resistance factor of 0,005-0,010 (м2·K)/W, successive casting gray, white alloying iron and gray iron. Amount of gray iron of outer layer is determined from empirical ratio: with M1 - mass of gray iron outer layer, kg; M2 - mass of white iron, kg; Tcas.2 - white iron casting temperature. C; Tliq.2 - white iron "liquidus" temperature, C; C - cover thermal resistance factor, (м2·K)/W. EFFECT: significant increase of quality of produced ingots due to decrease of tensions level, increases outer layer hardness and decreased number of cracks. 2 cl, 1 tbl
