FIELD: microbiology. SUBSTANCE: method involves mild acid hydrolysis of acylglycan consisting of 80% neutral hydrocarbons, 20% lipids and 2% proteins (mol. mass is 12500) which is extracted from bacteria Klebsiella pneumonia. Prepared mixture is separated by chromatography on ion-exchange resin, lyophilized, and hydrocarbon fraction is subjected for gel-filtration. Fraction containing galactan with mol. mass 4000-10000 is lyophilized and subjected for sulfating. Reaction mixture is dyalized, and new sulfated derivative of galactan is prepared showing the following properties: linear sequence of galactose groups bound with bonds (1-3), content of sulfate groups is 20-90%, molecular mass is 5000-12000. Product shows immunostimulating property and antielastase activity. EFFECT: improved method of galactan derivative preparing. 6 cl, 4 tbl
