FIELD: petrochemistry, more specifically processes for preparing substituted hydrocarbons. SUBSTANCE: the process comprises oxidation of an aromatic C6-C10 hydrocarbon or an C2-C6 alkane and/or the corresponding alkene with an oxygen-containing gas in a reactor in the presence of an oxide catalyst in a diluent to obtain a gaseous product containing the desired product and out going gases comprising unreacted hydrocarbon which is contacted with a solvent in a gas cleaner. Substantially the whole product is dissolved in a solvent and withdrawn from the gas cleaner and the washed outgoing gas is directed into a convector in which the oxidation catalyst (CO) is present under conditions that do not oxidize the unreacted hydrocarbon. The oxidation catalyst is mixed oxide copper-manganese or platinum-nickel catalyst. The CO-leaned gas stream is recovered from the last portion of carbon dioxide in a separator and recycled into to the process. EFFECT: greater efficiency of the process. 9 cl, 3 dwg, 5 tbl
