FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and system for producing methanol using an oxygen transport membrane based reforming system. Method includes separating oxygen from the oxygen-containing flow in one or more catalysts containing the oxygen transport membrane, where an oxygen permeate flow and an oxygen depleted, delayed flow are formed, the catalyst is contained in the tubes at the outlet side of the reactors, reforming the combined feed flow containing methane and water vapor in the reactor due to the heat radiation transferred from the reactor to produce a reformed synthesis gas flow, the direction of the reformed synthesis gas flow to the discharge side of one or more reactors, reacting a portion of the reformed synthesis gas flow coming into contact with the discharge side of the oxygen-flow reactor to produce a heated reaction product flow and heat, wherein a portion of the heat is the thermal radiation used in the reforming step in the reactor, part of the heat is used inside the reactor and some of the heat is transferred by convection to the oxygen-depleted flow, reforming the reformed synthesis gas flow in the reactor at the expense of the heat produced by the reaction to produce a final product flow of the reformed synthesis gas, the flow direction of the final product of the reformed synthesis gas to the methanol synthesis and purification system, synthesis of crude methanol from a combined flow of produced synthesis gas and purification of the crude methanol to methanol, which is the final product.
EFFECT: invention provides improved integration of methanol synthesis production.
