FIELD: nuclear power engineering. SUBSTANCE: radioactive waste is placed into storage container, is poured with melt of matrix material which contains 1-5 per cent by mass of cadmium. Prior to pouring container is heated to temperature 10-50 C higher than melting temperature of matrix material. Container with recessions in bottom thickness or with insert having holes or recessions is used for placement of waste. Matrix material based on lead or its alloys is used in process.
