FIELD: immobilization of radioactive wastes.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes charging of spent ionizing radiation sources into internal cavity of container metal matrix through intake hole. The latter is closed with lid and metal sealing component whose melting point is below that of matrix metal is placed on its top; this component is adhesive to matrix metal. Container case is closed with cover whereupon container is heated to temperature higher than melting point of sealing component metal but lower than that of matrix metal. Device for conditioning spent ionizing radiation sources has housing made of corrosion-resistant material that incorporates bottom part, casing, and cover and accommodates metal matrix with internal cavity to receive spent ionizing radiation sources. Metal sealing component is disposed on top of metal matrix and internal cavity lid. Intake hole of internal cavity and its lid, housing cover, and top part of casing are made in the form of conical surfaces joined together at angle of 5-7 degrees of arc.
EFFECT: reduced radiation hazard, enhanced environmental friendliness.
