FIELD: plasma technology. SUBSTANCE: plasma cathode is designed for creation of reluctance motors and technology sources of accelerated fluxes for ion-plasma machining of surfaces of materials in vacuum. Plasma cathode has case with open butt, emitter with through channel located in case, its one end is positioned opposite to open butt of case, activating electrode electrically insulated relative to case and emitter and device to feed working medium into through channel of emitter. Activating electrode is placed in space of case in front of the other end of through channel of emitter. Device to feed working medium into through channel of emitter communicates with inner space of case in zone of position of activating electrode. For activation of cathode spark change is excited in working medium in zone between activating electrode and end of through channel of emitter opposite to open butt of case, after this negative potential is fed to emitter. EFFECT: reduced power consumption of cathode by facilitation of conditions of its activation, prolonged service life of cathode. 11 cl, 5 dwg
