FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to plasma engineering, namely in cathode-compensators operating on gaseous working bodies, and can be used in electric jet engines to neutralize ion flow, as well as in plasma process sources intended for ion-plasma treatment of surfaces of different materials in vacuum, as well as plasma source. Plasma hollow cathode comprises hollow capsule 1 with end wall 2 and through outlet 3, inside of which there is emitter 4, inlet branch pipe 5 and starting electrode 6, emitter is made with blind working cavity and with at least one throttle channel 7 of working medium passage. Sections of outer surface of emitter 8 and inner surface of hollow capsule 9 are made cone-shaped, by means of which they are interconnected. Barrier gaps 10 and 11 are formed between external cylindrical part of emitter surface and inner cylindrical part of hollow capsule surface, as well as between emitter and end wall of hollow capsule. Sections of conjugation of external surface of emitter with inner surface of hollow capsule are preferable to distance from through output outlet.

EFFECT: technical result is longer life and higher reliability.
