FIELD: centrifugal separators. SUBSTANCE: method provides for delivery of liquid mixture to be separated into centrifugal separator drum with inlet hole for mixture, central outlet hole for separated light liquid and peripheral outlet hole for heavy substance. Special arrangement is used for opening and closing heavy substance outlet hole. Preset amount of displacing heavy liquid is delivered into drum by feeding device set into operation by control means just before opening of peripheral outlet hole for forcing light liquid out radially inside and discharging it through central outlet hole of drum. Preset amount of displacing heavy liquid is divided into two portions. First portion is delivered into drum at preset speed, and second portion is fed after the first portion at a speed less than that of speed of first portion. Then discharged light liquid is checked for presence of displacing heavy liquid and, if heavy liquid is detected, peripheral hole is opened to evacuate heavy substance. EFFECT: prevention of non-controlled output of displacing heavy liquid through outlet hole for light liquid is process of separation. 4 cl, 3 dwg
