FIELD: vehicle fittings or parts. SUBSTANCE: bumper 1 is secured to body 2 using cantilever 3 welded to the body. The cantilever has [ - shaped projections 4,5,6 which define grooves together with body 2. Vertical ribs 9,10 are made on the side part of the bumper. The ribs are arranged along the longitudinal axis of the vehicle body, have chamferings and bevels to assist mounting of the bumper, and enter end grooves. Edge 17, which is perpendicular to longitudinal axis of body 2, catches on central projection 5, which is inclined to the longitudinal axis of the body, owing to flexible deformation of the side part of the bumper and vertical ribs 9,10. When vehicle strikes an obstacle, bumper 1 absorbs the shock energy by deforming and shifting it along the longitudinal axis of body 2 . The stiffening ribs enters slots 7,8 and permit bumper to shift at a distance that provides damping of the shock energy. Edge 17 of the bumper slides over the rounded step whose plane is inclined to the vehicle axis at an angle lesser than 90 deg. This allows edge 17 to come on the body surface.
