FIELD: technology of inorganic substances. SUBSTANCE: method for recovery of cobalt from used cobalt-containing catalyst consists in treatment of used catalyst with 10-20% aqueous solution of potassium or sodium hydroxide and subsequent heat treatment (260-530 C) of precipitant in the first step and dissolving of obtained product in sulfuric acid to produce cobalt sulfate. EFFECT: reduced effluents of organic substances to atmosphere by a factor of 8-12. 1 tbl
