FIELD: electrochemical cleaning of water. SUBSTANCE: method involves treating water containing microorganisms in permanent nonuniform electric field at electric field intensity gradient not below 0.01 V/cm³ by means of device, which has electrodes disposed in tube. Electrodes are formed as truncated cone-shaped pipes mounted in casing in axial alignment one with respect to the other and interconnected with their small ends by coupling made from dielectric material. Tube is made from non-conductive material or inner surface of tube is coated with electrically-insulating covering.
