FIELD: measurement technology; acoustics. SUBSTANCE: method involves expansion of acoustic signal under examination into harmonic modes to determine their frequencies and amplitudes and compare with the natural oscillation frequencies, determining oscillation mode type and object-gage system parameters corresponding to each mode, radiation surface area and acoustic resistance. Energy is calculated from a formula using all parameters found. EFFECT: enhanced accuracy in determining acoustic signal energy; wider range of applications for various materials without being restricted with the type of acoustic emission signal source. 4 dwg, 2 tbl
