FIELD: applied magnetooptics. SUBSTANCE: invention can find use in devices for control over light based on magnetooptical Faraday effect. Modulator has structure made from magnetoinsulated cells based on backing of nonmagnetic garnet. Cells are manufactured from ferrite-garnet with point of compensation of pulse moment at working temperature. Two systems of mutually perpendicular conductors fabricated from high-temperature super-conductor are placed between cells. Apart from them modulator has thermostat with optical windows which houses mesa and conductors. Switching-over of cells is performed by means of mechanism of magnetization rotation. Relaxation of cells which should not be switched over to initial state takes place under action of pulses of current of opposite polarity. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency and reliability of control, simplified design of modulator. 11 cl, 6 dwg
