FIELD: agriculture. SUBSTANCE: method for determining the efficiency of conservant when storing hay with a moisture content of 45-11 involves taking samples from preserved hay treated with conservant or with mechanical means for final drying to standard moisture content and determining its affection with microbes. Under laboratory conditions the hay samples are crushed into 3-4 cm particles then analyzed under a microscope for any hyphas, encapsulated slime, actinomyces, fungi, bacteria. Further identification of actinomyces "a" is carried out on meat-peptone agar at 22-30 C, bacteria "b" on the same medium at 28-45 C, fungi "d" on Chapek medium at 24-30 C and the total microbial affection of preserved hay "P" is calculated in per cent by the formula submitted in the description of the invention.
