FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: apparatus for cooling continuously cast ingots has a cylindrical nozzle, having on its end a convex jet in the form of a hemisphere, divided by a slit; a diaphragm with an axial cylindrical opening; a sleeve, mounted in the cylindrical nozzle with possibility of axial motion, and a stopper, passing to an opening of the nozzle. The apparatus is provided by two or more diaphragms with different - diameter openings, arranged one close to another. The sleeve has locking turnings on its outer surface for the stopper; a stroke and a number of these turnings are equal respectively to a thickness and a number of the diaphragms. The diaphragms are provided by cone axial opening. The invention may be used in operating plants for metal continuous casting or in newly constructed plants. EFFECT: enhanced versatility of the apparatus due to a widened range of controlling an opening of a torch of a cooling agent and its flowrate. 2 cl, 9 dwg, 1 tbl
