FIELD: production of extra-hard materials. SUBSTANCE: method involves forming a charge of a carbon-containing explosive with a negative oxygen balance, filling the internal chamber of an explosion chamber with gaseous products of detonation at atmospheric pressure, placing the explosive charge in the center of the explosion chamber, detonating it and, after a series of explosions, withdrawing the condensed products of detonation from the explosion chamber in the form of diamonds. Before filling the explosion chamber with gaseous products of detonation, a cooling liquid with a dynamic viscosity coefficient of (0,3-2)·10-3, e.g. water, is poured on the chamber bottom so that the weight of said liquid is 15-70 times heavier than that of the explosive charge while the weight of said charge is selected from a range of 0.1-0.4 of the weight of the gaseous medium inside the chamber under normal conditions.
