FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: proposed method of cooling the continuously cast ingots includes the metal feed to the mould and the ingot extraction from it with variable velocity. The ingot surface is cooled by the water-air mixture sprayed by sprayers. When the speed of the ingot extraction is increased or decreased, the sprayer sections are switched off along the length of the secondary cooling zone. If the extraction speed is decreased, the water supply to switched off sprayer sections is stopped. The air flow rate is increased by the factor of 0.8.1.6 of the operating value. EFFECT: enhanced quality of the continuously cast ingots. 1 tbl
