FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves examining aged people having vertebral osteochondrosis signs detected by means of X- ray examination and calculating the value of an integral characteristic coefficient from a proposed formula using some radiometric features characterizing separately men and women. The calculated integral characteristic coefficient being less than 1.6, the patient is considered to have no clinical signs of cervical osteochondrosis. the value being within 1.61-3.34 interval, initial or moderate degree of cervical osteochondrosis is to be diagnosed. The value exceeding 3.35, marked clinical signs of cervical osteochondrosis are shown to take place. The radiometric features are calculated by processing lateral background X-ray picture and functional picture (with head lifted). The features are included into the formula according to sexually specific vertebral column structure, load distribution patterns, age, compensatory and pathologic structural and functional changes in the vertebral column. EFFECT: enhanced accuracy of diagnosis. 1 tbl
