FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: claimed process comprises contacting desalted dehydrated petroleum with alumonickel and/or alumocobalt- molybdenum catalysts in hydrogen atmosphere at elevated temperature and pressure, adding additive to said desalted and dehydrated high-sulfur petroleum onto catalyst. The additive is mixture of one of organic alcohols having one to four carbon atoms in amount of 1- 20% by volume and water in amount of at least 5% by volume of additive. Contacting is carried out with catalyst having pore size of 70-120A at 370-400 C and pressure of 35-70 atm gauge and the resulting mixture is then treated by established procedure. EFFECT: more efficient preparation process.
