FIELD: quantum electronics, pulse lasers with initial ionization. SUBSTANCE: method involves initial ionization of inter-electrode gap by means of aperture-treated ionizing radiation through semitransparent electrode. Flow of ionizing radiation is collimated in directions which are parallel to plane which includes longitudinal axes of electrodes and its shape is varied in direction which is perpendicular to said plane. Initial ionization provides matching aperture of emitting surface of initial ionization unit and aperture of plane of semitransparent electrode. Device which implements method includes attenuator and series of plates which are located between initial ionization unit and semitransparent electrode. Factor of attenuator varies in direction which is perpendicular to its surface. Aperture of emitting surface of initial ionization unit is same as aperture of working surface of semitransparent electrode. EFFECT: increased shaping range. 3 cl, 2 dwg
