FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: self-sufficient single-use probe having temporary buoyancy, provided with energy content and emitting radiation and desk which is receiver of radiation and calculator of sought-for values are provided for measurement of depth of reservoirs and level of liquid. For implementation of method probe is thrown into reservoir, time of start of its movement and moments of change of radiation parameter related to reach by probe of level of liquid and/or bottom of reservoir are registered, time intervals spent for fall and submersion of probe and transmission of radiation in medium are found and sought-for values are calculated in compliance with number of changes of radiation parameter by specific formulas. Designs of device for realization of method in general case and in case of examination of reservoir with optically transparent liquids are described in formula of invention.
