FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: given sound probe is meant to determine separation boundaries between liquid layers, for instance, boundaries of oil layer spread on water surface and to locate boundaries of thin surface layer of liquid. Probe has measurement and float systems whose centers of mass match. Measurement system includes two high-frequency receiving and emitting elements whose apertures are arranged in planes placed at specified distance. One of these elements locates surface of upper layer and the other element realizes location from depth of liquid. Important advantage of proposed sound probe lies in possibility of adjustment of degree of submersion of receiving and emitting element positioned on surface of upper layer of liquid which ensures acoustic contact of aperture of this receiving and emitting element with examined layer of liquid. Disturbance transmitter makes it possible to avoid measurement errors related to disturbance of free boundary and presence of temperature-sensitive element enables corrections coupled to dependence of velocity of sound in examined layer on temperature to be entered.
