FIELD: chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: method involves ethylene chlorination at 20-65 C, product withdrawal from the liquid phase that is fed to reactor where ethylene is chlorinated at reaction mass boiling point (84-90 C) and product withdrawal from the vapor phase. Catalyst accumulated in chlorination reactor at 84-90 C is fed to chlorination reactor(s) at 20-65 C or utilized. Ratio of 1,2-dichloroethane amount obtained at 20-65 C and at reaction mass boiling is changed from 1 to 4.5. Synthesized 1,2-dichloroethane is used as raw for large-scale vinyl chloride production that is a monomer for polymeric materials and as a solvent. EFFECT: improved method of synthesis. 2 cl, 2 tbl
