FIELD: analytical chemistry, environmental control. SUBSTANCE: solutions of thiourea peroxidase, sample to be analyzed, substrate-reductant and hydrogen peroxidase are added in succession to immobilized peroxidase preparation. Chromatographic paper is used as carrier of immobilized fermenting preparation, while 3,3'5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine is used as substrate-reductant. Count is started since moment of introduction of hydrogen and time moment is fixed at which yellow-colored spot appears on paper. Calibration chart is used for mercury determinations within concentration range of 10-6 to 10-3 mcg/ml. EFFECT: reliable proximate analyses of microquantities of mercury can be conducted by this method. 1 tbl
