FIELD: internal combustion engines; diagnosing methods. SUBSTANCE: intensity of knocking at combustion cycle in internal combustion engine is determined and, basing of its value, ignition advance angle is reduced so that no knocking should take place in the following cycle of combustion. Then, at each following no-knocking cycle, ignition advance angle is additionally increased by constant value which does not depend on intensity of knocking until knocking remains smaller than preset value. This newly found value of ignition advance angle by no means should exceed current basic value of ignition advance angle. Correction of ignition advance angle can be carried out for each separate cylinder of engine. EFFECT: improved reliability of correction of ignition advance angle. 3 cl, 3 dwg
