FIELD: direct chlorination of ethylene. SUBSTANCE: proposed reactor has vertical hermetic housing which has reaction zone with ascending flow of dichloroethane, circulating zone with descending flow of dichloroethane and separating of liquid and vapor phases of dichloroethane; all said zones are communicated; reactor is also provided with chlorine and ethylene distributors located in lower portion of reaction zone, hydraulic resistances, chlorine, ethylene and return dichloroethane inlet pipe unions and dichloroethane vapor discharge pipe union. Reaction zone is made in form of at least two separate reaction sections; sectional area of each section is no less than 0.1 of total area of reaction zone. Total sectional area of all reaction sections is equal to total sectional area of reaction zone of reactor. Each reaction section is provided with hydraulic resistances, chlorine and ethylene distributors and pipe unions for introducing these agents. Each chlorine and ethylene inlet pipe union is connected with respective chlorine and ethylene supply pipe lines through shut-off valve.
