FIELD: biotechnology. SUBSTANCE: product: 9-alpha-hydroxyandrost-4-ene-3,17-dione is prepared by sterol transformation, for example, sitosterol, cholesterol and others, with bacteria of genus Mycobacterium in the presence of water-soluble chemical derivatives of beta-cyclodextrin, for example, alkylene glycol (ethylene glycol-, propylene glycol-) or carboxyalkyl (carboxymethyl-)-beta-cyclodextrin. Method ensures to enhance the yield of the end product at high substrate loading (5-20 g/l) and effectiveness of process. EFFECT: increased yield, simplified process.
