FIELD: blackening process. SUBSTANCE: metals and alloys of any composition and nonmetallic surfaces are blackened at relatively low temperatures by way of: applying onto surface of objects a thin layer of metal dithiocarbamate of general formula (R1R2NCS2)nMn+n,, where n is determined by metal valence, R1 and R2 are hydrogen, alkyl and aryl, and Me is Cu, Pb, Ag, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Zn, Bi, Cd, Sn or their mixture, followed by heat treatment at 280-750 C. EFFECT: improved procedure.
