FIELD: petroleum and coal product processing. SUBSTANCE: hydrocarbon material originated from petroleum or coal-chemical product containing aromatics and organosulfur compounds is carried out on sulfide Ni(Co)-Mo(W) catalysts at 250-400 C. Process is run successively in one or several catalytic zones, in each of them catalyst containing predominantly active sites responsible for one type of reaction: C-S bond hydrogenolysis (hydrofining) or hydrogenation of aromatics (dearomatization). Active sites are formed as the result of reversible interconversion of the two types of sites into each other when catalyst surface is subjected to reduction- oxidation processes. Process is carried out under conditions providing in each catalytic zone only one type of reaction: either hydrofining to remove heteroatomic impurities or dearomatization under hydrogen pressure 2-10 MPa. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of process owing to separating two types of reaction in presence of hydrogen. 23 cl, 6 dwg, 2 tbl
