FIELD: rare-earth metal metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: invention aims at simplifying preparation process consisting in substituting explosive hydrogen by less dangerous substance, increasing efficiency of process due to elimination of diluent (salt melt), and improving quality of final product. To achieve it, metal chlorides are thermally treated in presence of reducing agent, namely lithium hydride, whereupon hydrometallurgical treatment in acidic acid follows, in particular, with hydrochloric, nitric, and citric acid solutions with concentration 0.1-0.5 mol/l. Final product is filtered off at 60-70 C. EFFECT: simplified and improved process. 2 cl
