FIELD: mechanical engineering; applicable for strengthening heat treatment by round billets and products operating in the conditions of a high intrinsic pressure and mechanical wear of the internal surface. SUBSTANCE: the method consists in hardening and tempering with induction heating, which are accomplished at a variable temperature in pipe wall thickness with a negative temperature gradient from the external surface to the internal one. The tempering temperature in pipe wall thickness varies from 600 to 200 deg. C. EFFECT: enhanced structural strength of pipes due to regulated distribution of mechanical properties in pipe cross-section. 3 tbl
