FIELD: computation of cutting modes in systems of automated design of grinding operations. SUBSTANCE: power used to rotate spindle of grinding machine at idle run is measured in advance, sample is ground with grinding wheel with increase of parameters of cutting mode. Power used to rotate spindle is enhanced to value at which grinding machine switches off when protective relay operates. At this moment power and actual speed of rotation of spindle are measured simultaneously. Value of maximum power permissible key component of cutting force of spindle drive is found by formula. EFFECT: enhanced authenticity of method.
