FIELD: mechanical engineering; diesel engine exhaust system; catalytic converters. SUBSTANCE: catalytic converter has housing 1 with heat insulation, end face cover 2, intake branch pipe 3, outlet branch pipe 4, reactor with reaction chamber 5 and catalytic elements in form of matrices 6, 7 installed in tandem. First matrix 6 in direction of exhaust gas flow is made in form of ring, and the other, in form of solid cylinder. Fixed bushing 10 with movable pipe 11 is placed inside ring. Pipe has at least two rows of ports 12, 13, and closed end face 14. Walls of bushing 10 and walls of intake branch pipe 3 serve as guide for pipe 11. Pipe 11 is driven by device consisting of exhaust gas temperature transmitter, transmitter signal transducer, actuating mechanism and hydraulic device. Catalytic converter provides quality cleaning of exhaust gases, operative response to change in engine operating conditions, it has long service life owing to decrease in contamination of first stage, provides self contained operation and features low backpressure to exhaust at idling and low load.
