FIELD: electrochemical processes. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrolysis with consumable self- burning carbon anode, in particular, in aluminium production. Preparation of anode mass is distinguished with that anode mass containing calcined electrode coke and coal pitch is supplemented with adsorbents with pore size within the range 2.6 to 3.7 nm. As additive, activated carbons are used in amount 3-5% based on pitch weight. Before mixing with coke, additive is introduced into pitch and kept at 175-290 C for 1.5-2.0 h.
