FIELD: diagnosis of machinery. SUBSTANCE: cardioid microphone is placed at a distance of r > a2/λ from the radiating surface of the machinery body in the area of the assembly to be diagnosed, where a - typical dimension of the given surface, l - wave-length at a pick-off of electrical signal from the microphone output, discrimination of the information parameter from this signal by which the level of defect origination and development is determined. The depth of amplitude modulation of the envelope of the acoustic field radio-frequency spectrum at frequencies corresponding to the frequencies of repetition of typical fault signals is used as the information parameter.
