FIELD: explosion and fire safety equipment. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of determination of explosive properties of steam and gas mixtures containing hydrogen under various initial pressures and temperatures. Process of determination of parameters of capacity for explosion of hydrogen-containing mixtures diluted by water steam is based on feed of water and incombustible gas components with controlled parameters, heating, mixing and recording of their parameters of capacity for explosion into reaction chamber. For simplification of realization of process part made from hydride of alkali metal with charge of explosive is placed into reaction chamber having volume exceeding 0.1 cu.m before feed of components of mixture into upper part of chamber. Feed of hydrogen, heating and mixing of components of gas mixture are performed due to interaction with water of hydride of alkali metal (lithium hydride) crushed by burst of explosive charge and initiation of mixture is accomplished after achievement of maximum values of pressure and temperature. Concentration of hydrogen, water steam and temperature of mixture are controlled by selection of masses of water and hydride of alkali metal (lithium hydride) as well as by heating of water to temperature below boiling point.
