FIELD: railway transport. SUBSTANCE: DC electric locomotive has frame with bogies, body mounted on frame and accommodating positive cooling motor-fans of traction motors, motor-compressor with pneumatic system and main air reservoirs, three-phase ac motor-generator, brake rheostats and controllers. Novelty in design of DC electric locomotive is that photographs with lifting and lowering mechanisms are replaced by high voltage input device 11 electrically connected with high-voltage switchgear 12 to which traction electric motors, three-phase as motor- generator 16 and DC motor-generator 17 are connected through controllers 9. DC motor generator 17 is connected also to high-voltage switchgear 12 whose output is connected with storage batteries 20 through high voltage unit supplied by storage battery 20. Negative output of high voltage unit is connected with one of input terminals of high voltage input device 11. Positive terminal of traction substation is electrically connected to one of rails and, through frame and body of electric locomotive, is connected with other input terminal of high voltage input device 11. When voltage from storage batteries is supplied to cathode filaments of gas filled rectifier diodes of high voltage input device and negative charges are supplied to cathodes proper from high-voltage traction substation through frame, potential difference is created across output terminals of high voltage input device 11 owing to ionization of gas in gas filled rectifier diodes which is used to supply all circuits of electric locomotive.
