FIELD: ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: when treating smelt by active elements, in particular, introducing ground active element or its foundry alloy and fine powder of refractory material, indicated components are used at ratio 5: 1 to 50:1, respectively, in amount 0.1-0.3% based on smelt weight. When active element is magnesium and refractory material titanium oxycarbonitride, their ratio is 10:1. Similarly, magnesium to titanium oxycarbide and to zirconium oxydiboride ratios are 20:1 and 50:1, as well as silicocalcium to titanium oxycarbonitride, silicon oxynitride, and zirconium oxide, and silicobarium to zirconium oxinitride ratios are 5:1, 10:1, 20:1, and 10: 1, respectively.
