FIELD: mineral dressing. SUBSTANCE: process of recovering ilmenite from loose minerals or mineral concentrates includes separation of components according to their densities, and one-step baking of continuous raw material stream. To vary magnetic properties of material under treatment, a process is used involving control of oxygen content in working zone atmosphere and heating of material to 650-900 C in hydrocarbon fuel medium including fuel combustion products (C and CO zones among them). Under such conditions, less drastic baking is required in magnetic separation step resulting in better treatment of material. In turn, bakeout of baked material provides improving its final magnetic properties. Ilmenites having inclusions or borders of silicate minerals are subjected to additional dressing owing to disintegration after magnet separation before slag withdrawal or use as synthetic rutile stream. Baking is preparatory operation when preparing ilmenites for leaching process in synthetic rutile production. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of process. 15 cl, 4 tbl
