FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method includes introducing smelt of oxide and carbon materials into and/or onto fusion, injecting gas into slag layer of smelt with intensity providing ejaculation slag smelt particles, droplets or jets into gas space over fusion, and also injecting oxygen-containing gas into gas space to completely burn CO and H2 and transfer heat evolved from burning directly to slag smelt particles, droplets or jets. Reactor has two-level bottom, the lower level being designed for metal and upper one for slag smelt. Lances to inject oxide and carbon materials are disposed in lower part of lower bottom level and also in cover of casing over metal smelt, whereas lances to inject gas into slag smelt are disposed in lower part of upper bottom level at distance from side wall of casing equal to e.g. at least five lance diameters. The latter lances are disposed at an angle to lower surface of upper level of bottom, e.g. at 90 deg. Gas blown in into slag layer may be nitrogen, inert gases, recycling gas, CO, H2, natural gas, propane, and butane. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of process. 14 cl, 1 dwg
