FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes procedures of partial preliminary reduction of metal oxides to degree of preliminary reduction, at least 60% at one or more stages of preliminary reduction; at least one stage of preliminary reduction is performed by means of one or more following elements: natural gas, natural gas subjected to reforming and natural gas subjected to partial reforming used as reductant. After preliminary reduction, complete reduction of metal oxides and melting of metal at reduction stage are performed. EFFECT: increased productivity; enhanced economical efficiency. 8 cl, 1 dwg
