FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to process of slagging refractory lining of converter to increase its stability. Task is achieved through applying coating onto lining by way of tapping off metal from converter and leaving liquid slag therein followed by feeding liquid slag onto lining. After metal is tapped off from converter and the latter is lifted into its vertical position, multi- nozzle lance is periodically 2-4 times descended into working space of converter with velocity 0.1-0.3 m/s. The lance serves to fed nitrogen in 4-8 jets tangentially inclined to slag surface in converter at angle 60-85 deg, total nitrogen intake being 300-700 cu. m/min. Gas is fed in the beginning of operation at distance equal to 160-300 calibers of lance nozzles from bottom of converter. Lift of lance is launched with velocity 0.004-0.003 m/s from the level 50-150 nozzle calibers distant from the bottom of converter, lance being retained at this level in stationary position for 0.5-2.0 min. EFFECT: increased productivity of process and improved stability of coating. 1 tbl
