FIELD: steelmaking. SUBSTANCE: invention concerns a method of smelting steel in arc furnace including charging metal charge composed of metal scrap, iron- ore materials, and alloying agents, pouring in liquid cast iron, smelting and heating, introducing remaining part of solid charge into smelt, smelting and alloying liquid metal. Method is distinguished by that light-weight scrap in amount 2-5% based on batch weight is heaped onto furnace bottom, iron-ore materials in amount 15% based on total metal charge weight are loaded onto scrap heap, and liquid cast iron in amount 40.5-55% based on batch weight is poured over iron-ore materials for 0.5-20 min, remaining part of solid metal charge is added at smelt temperature 1500-1580 C. As a result, yield of highest- quality steel is increased, power consumption is reduced by 5-9% and oxygen consumption by 11-15%. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of process. 1 tbl
