FIELD: automotive industry; ignition systems of internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: to reveal disturbances in combustion process ion current flowing through spark plug electrodes is measured. Method comes to the following: ac voltage is generated in primary winding of ignition coil at time of absence of control ignition pulses, and ion current in secondary winding of ignition coil is detected, for instance, by synchronous detector. Method can be implemented in ignition system of internal combustion engine with electronic control unit, electronic switch and individual ignition coil for each spark plug. Integral design version of device can be used to reveal disturbances in combustion process which makes it possible to reduce overall dimensions of device and improve reliability of ignition system. EFFECT: reduced overall dimensions, improved reliability. 5 cl, 6 dwg
