METHOD FOR DIAGNOSING VERNAL ENCEPHALITIS Russian patent published in 1997 - IPC

FIELD: medicine; diagnosis of vernal encephalitis. SUBSTANCE: patient's blood sample is taken to obtain constituent blood elements, to which first 0.9%-sodium chloride solution, and next vernal encephalitis hemoglutinine solution are added. Mixture thus-obtained is incubated and diagnostically signification index is determined. Inventive novelty of proposed method resides in following: earlier isolated constituent blood elements are diluted with 0.9%-sodium chloride solution until concentration of constituent blood elements of 5-10% is reached. To mixture thus-obtained vernal encephalitis hemoglutinine solution is added in volume ratio of 1:1/ Resultant mixture is incubated for 3-5 min. at temperature 37-37.5 C, followed by centrifuging. Next polarogram of supernatant fluid is recorded using, as background solution, 0.01-0.02 N-potassium chloride solution. Polarogram thus-recorded is compared with reference polarogram. Latter is recorded after adding to electrolysis cell filled with background solution vernal encephalitis hemoglutinine solution in such amount, at which deviation of recorder's pen from its initial zero mark becomes equal to about 100 mm. Vernal encephalitis case must be diagnosed, if extent of deviation of recorder's pen from its zero mark declines by more than 15% as compared to extent of deviation of recorder's pen from its zero mark of reference polarogram. EFFECT: proposed method is simple, accurate and does not require any extra material expenses.
