FIELD: polymer materials and sorbents. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to preparing absorbents and hygienic means absorbing water and body exudations. Polymer macrostructure consists of particles of essentially water- insoluble absorbing hydrogel-forming polymer whose size in dry state exceeds 10 cu.mm. Such structure is prepared by cross-linking of polymer particles with linking agent taken in quantity 0.01 to 30.00 weight parts per 100 weight parts of polymer particles under conditions providing constant contact of particles with each other to form pores interconnected through liquid-permeable channels. Absorbent contains in its absorbing layer one or several such absorbing porous polymer macrostructures. Absorbing layer is disposed between upper liquid-permeable layer and, connected with it, lower liquid- impermeable layer. Macrostructure swells isotropically under conditions of moderate compression, has elevated absorbing capacity and preserves its structure upon swelling.
