FIELD: catalysts for air treatment. SUBSTANCE: raw material is preliminarily thermally treated, impregnated with salt solutions, and dried. According to invention, heat treatment is carried out at 700-850 C in presence of superheated steam followed by cooling material having summary porosity 0.5-1.2 cu. cm/g and containing preliminarily applied copper compounds with concentration 2-7% (on conversion to metal copper). In the second and third stages, material is once again impregnated by chemical additives and dried by conventional techniques. As raw material, both "pure" carbon sorbents and those containing copper compounds are used. Method may be applied on commercial scale. EFFECT: increased air treatment capacity. 2 cl, 2 tbl
