FIELD: inorganic chemistry, particularly, production of titanium dioxide being used in production of paint and varnish, in production of industrial rubber articles and other branches of industry. SUBSTANCE: before feeding into reaction zone water is mixed with products of combustion of natural gas, thermal stress in combustion zone being 0.4-10 gJ/m3•h. Thus prepared steam-gas mixture is fed for thermal hydrolysis. Separation of titanium dioxide and gaseous reaction products is carried out in two steps, at the first step titanium dioxide being separated of steam-gas stream. At the second step titanium dioxide is separated from impurities being adsorbed by it, the process takes place by heat treatment in movable layer at 300-700 C and at gage pressure not more 200 Pa. Fluidized bed is used as said movable layer; heating gases of combustion of gaseous fuel being mixed with air are fed into layer under gas-distributing furnace bottom. Said heating gases before their feeding are wetted till moisture content is 5-30 vol %, the process is carried out by additional supply of water. EFFECT: improved efficiency of the method. 6 cl
